Unfortunately, I haven't read as many of the candidates as you, but I adored Splendors and Glooms. I suppose I could see people agreeing on Trinket as well, but I also felt it was just lacking that extra something. Very excited to see how it turns out! I already had Starry River on my tbr, but obviously I need to get that done already.Heidihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00416898799044848769noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1265120169320473011.post-8328520070093984132013-01-24T21:13:55.557-05:002013-01-24T21:13:55.557-05:00My money's on Splendors and Glooms (my favorit...My money's on Splendors and Glooms (my favorite fantasy that didn't make the Cybils shortlist, but which admittedly is better suited to the Newbery anyway). I would also be happy to see a sticker on Starry River, and I'm not favoring it for the Newbery, but I agree that Cabinet of Earths deserved at least one star!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1265120169320473011.post-88327946358368494042013-01-24T20:16:30.784-05:002013-01-24T20:16:30.784-05:00I'm hoping for Starry River.I'm hoping for Starry River.Bethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18005286623073064886noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1265120169320473011.post-77565314091509332642013-01-24T19:12:29.233-05:002013-01-24T19:12:29.233-05:00I haven't read Dumpling Days, so can't com...I haven't read Dumpling Days, so can't comment....But the thought of Seraphina getting something is quite appealling!Charlottehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11835101886202235868noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1265120169320473011.post-61578010805194255422013-01-24T19:11:35.900-05:002013-01-24T19:11:35.900-05:00I would have given The False Prince a star!I would have given The False Prince a star!Charlottehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11835101886202235868noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1265120169320473011.post-76563990576952589172013-01-24T16:40:07.345-05:002013-01-24T16:40:07.345-05:00I'm surprised The False Prince only got one st...I'm surprised The False Prince only got one star!

Anamaria - I've heard lots of people say they prefer Dumpling Days, but that doesn't mean Starry River isn't wonderful.

As for The Spindlers, Lauren Oliver is very trendy, which may play into the hype.Livianiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10479932701589363306noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1265120169320473011.post-70306034000150803012013-01-24T15:13:15.715-05:002013-01-24T15:13:15.715-05:00Thank you for putting this list together, Charlott...Thank you for putting this list together, Charlotte! I've even heard Seraphina bandied about, but I think it skews too old. However, if you consider that The Hero and the Crown once won the Newbery . . . that was before the Printz existed, but I believe the committee is not supposed to consider what other awards a book might be eligible for.Mistihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08402630703438739629noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1265120169320473011.post-89912920057934570472013-01-24T09:04:28.801-05:002013-01-24T09:04:28.801-05:00Totally agree about CABINET OF EARTHS. It is the one of these consistently showing up in all the mocks I've seen. Then again the Newbery committee is so hard to predict. Like impossible actually.

It is interesting that I haven't seen The Girl Who...mentioned anywhere as a contender. There is no buzz about it. No real discussion. Interesting because of how many people wanted to discuss the first book last year and lamented its apparent ineligibility. This could be a surprise win.

I'm always surprised at some of the books that get starred over others so I try not to pay too much attention to that. :) Brandyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12105770016693038906noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1265120169320473011.post-91717600485048716872013-01-23T22:16:31.227-05:002013-01-23T22:16:31.227-05:00I love The Fire Chronicle - except for the fact th...I love The Fire Chronicle - except for the fact that prizes so rarely go to the second in a series.Madigan Mirzahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03298558705488237857noreply@blogger.com
