I actually think that the things that didn't work for you might really work for me (I like stories that aren't grounded in time, I don't mind episodic stuff), so I certainly ought to check it out.Heidihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00416898799044848769noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1265120169320473011.post-85804128601040971942013-03-12T21:07:17.918-05:002013-03-12T21:07:17.918-05:00Hmm...Charles de Lint can be VERY up and down for ...Hmm...Charles de Lint can be VERY up and down for me. Sometimes I love him, sometimes...not so much. I have to admit, your initial expectations of the book do sound more intriguing to me than the reality...but I'm tempted to explore this one anyway.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1265120169320473011.post-3105661712890172372013-03-11T19:04:53.272-05:002013-03-11T19:04:53.272-05:00I need to re-read Jennie too--I love that book!I need to re-read Jennie too--I love that book!Charlottehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11835101886202235868noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1265120169320473011.post-44840544269121925472013-03-11T19:00:59.248-05:002013-03-11T19:00:59.248-05:00Like I said, many people do seem to have loved it,...Like I said, many people do seem to have loved it, so maybe one or more of you would be a better reader for it than me! My father told us the episodes as stories before reading us the actual book... but I haven't gone back to it in decades.

But this book... I've been keeping it on my radar, and will have to think about how hard to look for it. I usually enjoy DeLint, but nonspecific time setting does sound potentially distracting.
