So less a moral issue than a practical one, and so Connie Willis is soothing in that regard....Charlottehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11835101886202235868noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1265120169320473011.post-61075187470235593902018-03-30T15:44:58.064-05:002018-03-30T15:44:58.064-05:00Yes! Maybe there's something fundamental about the fact that we don't get do-overs; this life is all about dealing with the consequences of your past choices, and you can't mess with that narrative certainty. Or something.

I really like Connie Willis's take on it: the time-space continuum is resilient and does everything it can to prevent you from messing with it. I don't know why that's so reassuring, when it means we can't go back and kill Hitler, but it is somehow.Kim Aippersbachhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02556947405633680410noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1265120169320473011.post-11618140594925639942018-03-30T07:42:33.121-05:002018-03-30T07:42:33.121-05:00Indeed. The only ones where this really works for me are when people go back past their own lives to right old wrongs.Charlottehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11835101886202235868noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1265120169320473011.post-25028601934899507882018-03-29T22:17:34.904-05:002018-03-29T22:17:34.904-05:00For some reason the trope of going back in time to...For some reason the trope of going back in time to try to fix the present has always actively repelled me. I'm trying to analyze my brain right now to figure out exactly why, but I don't know. It just feels very wrong to me, wrong enough that I don't want to read about it. (Apparently I have strong moral principles regarding time travel. Should come in useful one day.)Kim Aippersbachhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02556947405633680410noreply@blogger.com
