You know, I look at these wonderful releases every week or so, and I realized this morning that none of the authors seem to win ALA awards.
ReplyDelete...think about this with me. SFF gets a lot of popular acclaim, but none of the semi-scholarly backing that YALSA or the ALA provide... or am I wrong? What was the last major young adult/children's book award given to a SFF book? I admit my brain is currently Swiss cheese, but I honestly can think of nothing...
Um, actually the last two Newberys were sff-- When You Reach Me and The Graveyard Book....and this years Printz, Going Bovine, is extraordinarily fantastical (although it might all have been a delusion). And one of this year's Printz finalists was The Monstrumologist.
ReplyDeleteSo actually I don't think sff is doing too badly!
I love these lists, too, Charlotte. Can't wait to read Wayfarer!
ReplyDeleteI love the list too. I can't wait to read Wayfarer. I haven't heard of much else on the list this time.
ReplyDeleteI've read Magic Below Stairs, which I enjoyed lots, and The Shadows (Elsewhere Chronicles), which I enjoyed lots too! I'm looking forward to Wayfarer very much, and also The Web of Titan (The Comet's Curse, to which it is the sequel, was pleasantly diverting).
ReplyDeleteOooh Wayfarer is coming out already. This reminds me that I should read my UK editions of Knife and Rebel.
ReplyDeleteSadly, Wayfarer is the US title for Rebel, Chachic...I will go stick that in the post.
ReplyDeleteThe Stevermer sounds fun! I'm assuming this Lord is Thomas Schofield of Sorcery & Cecelia fame? I'd love to read more about him and his family! :)
