Kirkus' Best of -- the sci fi/fantasy section is an interesting mix!

Kirkus has announced its lists of best books for children and teens!

Here are the children's fantasy and science fiction books (Kirkus seems to be defining sff rather broadly....). It's a very nice group of books indeed, and if you click on the links, you can read their Kirkus reviews. (This looks reasonably formated on my computer, but knowing blogger, it might not be on yours. Sorry).

KEEPER, by Kathi Appelt

THE MEMORY BANK, by Carolyn Coman

  1. Weird MG mix -- Origami Yoda isn't SFF, is it?? And I can see how Departure Time (which was just weird, IMHO) and the Incorrigibles might seem like SFF, but they're not really either.

And yay for Tiffany Aching. Though boo for no Megan Whalen Turner.

  2. Yeah, I'm not sure what they were thinking of Origami Yoda...and although I myself tend to think the Incorrigible Children is so un-realistic as to be fantastic, I dunno as I'd go so far as to put in a best fantasy list. Oh well!

  3. Well, it all depends on if you BELIEVE in Origami Yoda or not.

If you do not believe he is real, then the books is contemporary fiction.

But if you believe that he's really using the FORCE then it's got to be SFF!

Maybe some folks at Kirkus are believers! Right on!

  4. Hey Charlotte, just thought I would let you know the whole YA list is actually here:

I'm only mentioning it because A Conspiracy of Kings made it too and that wasn't on the page you linked nor on your list and I know you don't want to leave it out. :)
