I had a nightmare last night that someone nominated a really creepy book about a family of humanoid potatoes for the Cybils. Such a relief to wake up and see that all the lovely books nominated so far include no root vegetables as main characters!
Fourteen of them so far in Elementary/Middle Grade Speculative Fiction...will we pass last year's total of 150 before nominations close on midnight of October 15?
The central nominations page is here--go forth and spread the love for your favorite books of the past year! (Oct. 16, 2012, to Oct. 15, 2013).
Thank you very much for this! :D
ReplyDeleteI didn't even know that the nominations were up yet... ^_^
you are very welcome!
DeleteI'm dreaming about worse than humanoid potatoes; every year I think, "WHERE are these books COMING FROM!?!? And why haven't I HEARD OF ANY OF THEM!?!?!?" There are, sometimes, an amazing number of books in the world. One of the highlights of this thing for me is getting to find the ones that might otherwise have slipped through the cracks.
ReplyDeleteI have kind of the opposite problem--every year I want so badly to be surprised and thrilled by something I had never heard of...but I know the books published too well for my own good! There's always the small press/self-published ones though...I live in hope.
DeleteHumanoid potatoes! Such story possibilities there! Maybe someone should write one so that you have something to look forward to in future years. I also love the chance to discover new books through the Cybils. Some of my favorite books are books I probably wouldn't have read if I hadn't had to read them for the Cybils. Yes, there are always some poorly written/poorly edited books that we have to read, but there are also usually some pleasant surprises, at least for me.
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping that this year will bring lots of those!
